Wilkes On Official Visit

Omar Wilkes, the senior shooting guard and son of the former Bruin star, took his official visit to UCLA this weekend and told us about his impending decision...

Omar Wilkes, 6-2 SR SG, Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola, took his official visit to UCLA this weekend.

"It was really great," Wilkes said. "I know so many people. When I went to the football game, so many people I know were there. [Loyola football recruit] Quintin Daniels was there. I really like UCLA."

When asked if he could see himself at UCLA, he said, "Oh yeah."

Wilkes attended the UCLA football game Saturday in a UCLA jersey with the #52 on it, the jersey number his father Jamaal wore when he was a Bruin All-American in the 1970s.

Wilkes said that the UCLA trip was his last official visit, which is surprising since it was thought he'd visit Stanford next weekend. "I've been to UCLA, Cal and Kansas on official visits. I don't have to visit Stanford officially. I know enough about that program to be able to make my decision."

When might that decision be? "In a week or two," Wilkes said. "I'll have a press conference at my high school." Wilkes, ever the politician, wouldn't even give us a hint as to what his choice would be. When prodded, he laughed and said, "All the schools and programs are great. I couldn't possibly go wrong with any of them."

Latest word on Wilkes as of 9/23: Stanford is out. It appears to be between UCLA and Kansas for him.
