West Coast Recruiting News

The July evaluation period is well under way and the recruiting landscape can change quickly for players. We have updates on a few prospects in the west, including elite sophomore Jordan Hamilton, promising 6-8 junior post Greg Smith and more...

Jordan Hamilton, 6-7 JR SF Compton (Calif.) Dominguez, told us recently that he's hearing from Texas, Syracuse, USC, UCLA, Uconn and Arizona. When asked if he has a leader, Hamilton said, "Texas and the two West Coast schools – USC and UCLA."

Hamilton says that he'll probably decide early in his senior year. He told us he has a 2.8 GPA.

Greg Smith, 6-8 JR C Fresno (Calif.) Edison, is hearing from numerous schools, including UCLA, Kansas, Kansas State, Fresno State, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington and Cal.

When asked if any schools lead, Smith replied, "UCLA, Fresno St and Arizona. And a little bit Washington."

Colin Borchert, 6-8 JR PF/C Glendale (Ariz.) Mountain Ridge, told us that his top schools at the moment are Arizona, Arizona State, UNLV and USC.

Guy Landry, the 6-6 wing from Van Nuys (Calif.) High, is re-classifying to the 2009 class. We were told that Landry will turn 19 in December, thus making him ineligible for another year in the CIF. Instead, Landry will attend Findlay Prep in Las Vegas for his final year.

Landry has offers from Colorado, Fresno State and SMU. He's hearing from USC, San Diego State and Nebraska.
