Punter Commits, Says: "It's a Perfect Fit"

Jeff Locke, the #3-ranked punter in the country from Glendale (Ariz.) Moutain Ridge, had a busy summer of going to camps and taking unofficial visits all over the country, and then called UCLA yesterday and verbally committed to the UCLA staff...

Punter Jeff Locke from Mountain Ridge HS (Glendale, AZ) has called Scout.com to let the world know that he has committed to UCLA. The 3-star Locke is considered the #1 punter in the country by kicking guru Chris Sailer and is also ranked in the top 5 place kickers in the country as well.


Locke was highly recruited and had offers from Stanford, Nebraska, Arizona State, North Carolina, Colorado State, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, UCLA, Washington State, San Diego State and Wisconsin.

Locke made a ton of unofficials this summer, tripping to UCLA, ASU, San Diego State, Stanford, Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia Tech but decided last night to commit to head coach Karl Dorrell after he visited this past weekend.

Locke says, "I just finished my trip and last night came back after my unofficial and committed to Coach Dorrell." He says he loves the fact the he will staying on the west coast and noted that he has friends on the team. "I am friends with Aaron Perez. I will be red-shirting and learning from him." Locke says a series of dislocations have led to a torn labrum in his shoulder. He will play this high school season and then have surgery to repair the tears. After red-shirting to recover, the Bruins staff envision Jeff taking over the punting duties.

Locke stated other factors in his reasons for committing inclduing the academics. He says, "The education is one of the tops in the country. I also love really love the coaches. It is a perfect fit."

Locke will have no problem qualifying for school. He scored an 1840 on his SAT and carries a 4.3 GPA. He is unsure of what he will major in.

He adds that he and his family are excited about the commit and he is relieved that the recruiting process is over and he can concentrate on his senior year stating, "I will be able to focus and help my team win games." 

Locke was named 1st team all region as both a kicker and punter last year. Averaged 43.3 yards per punt as a junior. Was 7/11 with a long of 43 yards on field goals. 33 out of 40 kick offs resulted in  touchbacks and whe as 13/13 on PATs.
