"The UCLA one just came, and I had no idea it was coming," Mebane said. "I had talked with (defensive line coach) Don Johnson at UCLA. I was really surprised. I was like – Dang! I didn't know I was going to get another one. Things have gotten a bit crazy the past couple of weeks. I've gotten offers from Washington, Arizona and UCLA." While Mebane plays both sides of the ball, he is being recruited strictly for defense line. "I prefer to play defense."
Mebane said with the offer UCLA definitely moves up onto his list of schools. "I haven't narrowed my list of schools yet. The schools I am hearing the most from are in the Pac-10. I have offers from UCLA, USC, Arizona, Cal, Oregon and Washington." Outside the Pac-10, Mebane has drawn interest from Michigan State, Kansas and Wisconsin, but none of those schools have yet to offer. "They are pretty much all the same. "Right now I really don't have any favorites. I'm going to wait it out until signing day before I announce."
"I haven't set up any official visits. I'm still not too sure which schools will get official visits yet. I'm going to wait until the end of October and make a decision about which schools to visit. I'll take two or three closer to the end of the season, and then take a couple in December or January."
He may not use an official visit on the local Los Angeles schools. "I've been to practices at both UCLA and USC, so I am pretty familiar with those schools. I probably won't take official visits to the local schools. They are definitely still on my list, but I've been there already know them pretty well."
Last season Mebane had 78 tackles and 19 sacks. He has four sacks so far this season. Crenshaw is 2-2 right now, and expects to pick up another win again 1-4 San Pedro tonight.
Mebane is expected to attend the UCLA-Oregon game this weekend with some of his teammates. He is an academic full qualifier.
