Long Beach Poly OL Looks for Offer

The Long Beach Poly lineman prospect, Charles Owens, has had a good senior season -- and he's waiting on his favorite colleges to offer him a scholarship...

Charles Owens, 6-2, 265, 5.0, Long Beach (Calif.) Polytechnic was asked if he has a top group of schools that he is most interested in.

He said, "Yes I do. My top five is Oregon, Michigan, Tennessee, UCLA and Oklahoma." While he has his favorites, Oregon is the only school on the list that has been recruiting Owens consistently.

Yet he is still drawing the attention of a number of other schools. "My mailbox is always full. I'm getting lots of letters from all over," Owens said. "Other than Oregon I haven't really had the chance to talk to the other schools on my list."

Owens is getting calls from schools, but he hasn't had too many opportunities to talk with them "I'm not even sure which schools have called. I get home too late, but I know that Oregon has been calling as has Nevada and Portland State. Those of the ones that have caught me at home, but most of the time I'm not home until late."

Regarding both scholarships and official visits Owens is still waiting on offers. "Most of the schools have said they want to wait until they see how I do my senior season. They love my size and strength, but they want to see me play."

Refusing to just wait for attention, Owens and the Poly coaches have been doing their best to get Owens noticed. "I have been sending out my game films. I think pretty much the whole Pac-10 has my film because I heard from my coaches that the college coaches have been trying to find time to watch the film. I know the Oregon coaches watched the film, because they said they thought the film looked pretty good."

Owens missed half of his junior season due to family-related reasons, but he has really been coming on this season. "I've been doing pretty good this year. I'm playing both offensive and defensive tackle this year. I prefer offense and that's what I'm being recruited to play."
