After a solid junior year at Santa Margarita, in which he earned all-state underclass honors, Davis is now at Tesoro High in Las Flores. Fortunately, coaches have been able to find him despite the move.
"I'm getting a lot of interest from schools," said Davis. "UCLA, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Florida and USC are a few of them. I went up to USC (last week) and it was awesome. I really liked it up there. I talked to coach (Nick) Holt and coach (Ken) Norton. They seemed very interested in me and they welcomed me and I felt like they wanted me."
UCLA is another school that Davis has interest in, going to a game last fall and staying in touch with the Bruin staff after camping there last summer. "I'm hoping to go up to Junior Day there and maybe camp there again," said Davis. "I liked going to their game and in the locker room last year."
Davis has a top seven that includes both the Trojans and Bruins as well as Florida, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and Oregon. He took an unofficial visit to Florida last season as well.
"All the schools have me as a linebacker," said Davis, who could also play safety in college. "I like outside the most, strong or weak, I'm not really considering one side. But I just prefer the outside."
Davis said he's eagerly waiting for his first scholarship offer, but he's not panicking yet. "I'm hoping for it to come, but I'm just waiting for one because I think when that comes, more will follow," said Davis. "I'd like to commit before my season, but if that doesn't happen, I'll just wait. I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision."
Davis said a couple of factors need to stand out for him when he makes his choice: "I want to go to a good academic school, where the education is really good. And I want to compete with the best players and compete for a national title. I'm really excited for the spring and summer. I can't wait to get out and visit the schools and see where I could be going for the next 4-5 years of my life."
When describing his style of play, Davis says, "I'm fast and athletic and I play hard, as hard as I can. I like watching Shawn Merriman and the way he plays. I try to play like that."
Spending the last two seasons at Santa Margarita, in the rigors of the Trinity League, Davis and his family moved just down the street from Tesoro, which is why he'll play his senior year there. "I like it a lot, the coaches are really cool, and the players have been really receptive," said Davis.
This spring, Davis expects to be diligent in hitting the camp and combine scene. He'll be at the New Level/Scout Pass Camp next month, the Scout.com Combine in May, the USC Camp and Friday Night Lights in Florida.
Academically, he has a 3.1 GPA and scored a 1510 on the SAT.
