Franco Talks of Visit to UCLA

Robert Franco, the junior linebacker prospect from San Pedro (Calif.) visited UCLA unofficially last weekend with his father, and not only was he impressed with UCLA's new coaching staff, but got to experience a pretty remarkable basketball game...

San Pedro (Calif.) linebacker Robert Franco (6-0, 220) was one of a handful of Southland juniors who took in the Meet-and-Greet at UCLA on Saturday, and Franco and his family came away impressed.

"Robert enjoyed the basketball game and the atmosphere at the school," said his dad, Bob. "The place is really buzzing with excitement about the new football coaches and the program overall. As we walked around the campus with Rick Neuheisel, Norm Chow and DeWayne Walker, people were stopping them to ask for pictures. It was infectious and the recruits couldn't help but be caught up in the buzz and excitement."

Franco left Westwood feeling good about his conversations with the Bruin coaching staff and the direction it could go. "Robert felt it all the way and was impressed with the football facilities and the staff," said his dad. "All the coaches were impressed with Robert's size and were very hospitable. Coach (Chuck) Bullough said that Robert looked like a linebacker is supposed to look."

Franco himself had plenty of positive things to say about his visit.

"I really like everything about UCLA," said Franco. "Coach Neuheisel is a really great guy and Coach Walker and Coach Howard really made me feel welcome. I am just waiting to see who offers me to really get a feel on how serious they are. I know good things will come."

When we spoke to Franco last month, he admitted UCLA was his favorite, and he could be a possible early commit. "Robert is hoping to spend more time with the UCLA staff but will try to take a few more visit to other campuses before spring ball starts," said Bob Franco.

This weekend, he'll take an unofficial visit to UNLV when he's in Las Vegas for the New Level/Scout Pass Camp.

One of the highlights of the weekend for Franco was the basketball game that UCLA won over Cal. "We were treated to a great last-minute nail biter basketball game that will be remembered for along time to come," said Franco.

During his 2007 all-state underclass junior season, Franco had 156 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles.

Academically, he has a 3.0 GPA and scored a 1500 on the SAT.
