The choice for the nation's top prospect, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley, made the selection for the West's top recruit in 2009 pretty simple. Barkley is the premier player in the West this year, in what is a strong class for quarterbacks.

And in what is a deep and talented crop of linebackers, Manti Te'o from Punahou (Hawaii), is the #2 prospect in the region and the top defensive player from the West.

The region is well-represented, Utah boasting the top offensive lineman in the West in John Martinez from Salt Lake City Cottonwood, Nevada the top defensive end in Justin Chaisson from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas and Washington the top defensive tackle in Seattle Garfield's DeAndre Coleman. Oregon's top prospect is tackle Charles Siddoway from Eugene Marist and Idaho's headliner is linebacker Darren Markle from Meridian Mountain View.

Ten of the regions top 41 players have committed to USC, led by Barkley, linebacker Vontaze Burfict and safety Patrick Hall. BYU, Stanford and UCLA all each boast a pair of commits in the top 50.
