UCLA Considering Big Man Transfer

There is a 6-8 post transferring from a local school that has contacted UCLA, and UCLA is considering the prospect. He was a freshman last season in the West Coast Conference, and averaged 12.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game...

Malcolm Thomas, the 6-8, 220-pound post who played at Pepperdine as a freshman this season but is transferring, is interested in UCLA, and UCLA is showing interest.

When Vance Walberg was fired as Pepperdine's head coach, Thomas asked for his release and has contacted a number of schools.

USC is pursuing him, but he apparently has said he's not interested in the Trojans. UNLV and San Diego State are also possibiities.

Thomas could come to UCLA's campus on an unofficial visit very soon, possibly tomorrow.

Thomas averaged 12.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game at Pepperdine last season as a freshman.

He's considered an athletic, springy -- but fairly thin -- post.

Thomas would have to sit out a year, according to NCAA rules, and then would be a redshirt sophomore for the 2009-2010 season.
