After sorting through 18 scholarship offers from some of the top college football programs in the country, Oxnard (Calif.) Santa Clara five-star running back Cierre Wood is down to a lucky two.
Notre Dame and UCLA.
"I just thought about who has the best architecture program, and where I would be comfortable at, and a good setting for my family," Wood explained.
The 6-foot, 200-pound Wood has visited UCLA on a few occasions, including a spring practice two weeks ago.
This weekend will be his first-ever visit to Notre Dame. He will arrive with his parents tomorrow, and departs on Sunday morning.
"I'm just hoping to ask all my questions," Wood said of his trip to Notre Dame. "I want to know more about their depth chart, I want to know if I was to get hurt will they uphold their scholarship offer, how their running backs are looking, stuff like that."
There is no doubt Wood has looked good on Friday nights.
In helping lead Santa Clara High to the CIF-Mid Valley Division Title this past fall, Wood used his 4.5 speed to run for 2,612 yards on 178 carries (14.7 avg.), with 42 touchdowns. He added 191 yards receiving, and 50 tackles and three interceptions from his cornerback spot.
