UCLA's two senior quarterbacks, Patrick Cowan and Ben Olson, suffered injuries in Thursday's practice, with Cowan's being the far more serious.

Cowan's MRI today shows damage to his left ACL and his medial meniscus. He will be reexamined when the swelling decreases.

If the ACL damage is significant and Cowan needs reconstructive surgery, it could mean a recovery time of up to 8 months.

Cowan did utilize a redshirt year. To be granted a sixth year of eligibility, he would have to show he missed not only the entire 2008 season, but the equivalent of another whole season, which he more than likely wouldn't be able to do.

Olson's injury is less significant. His X-ray shows a fracture in his right 5th metatarsal. It is possible that he may have a screw put in the bone. He will be sidelined 6-8 weeks.

Olson could return in time for UCLA's summer throwing sessions in late June.
