Brown said five schools are standing out on his list.
"My top five, in no particular order, are USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Arizona State and Oregon," said Brown. "I don't have a favorite right now. I look at them all the same. I just want to see what school is the best for me."
Brown has taken in a pair of Junior Days in Southern California.
"USC's Junior Day was really cool," said Brown. "The coaches said they want me to come to their camp and they'll watch me closely and they could offer me after the camp."
Across town, Brown visited Westwood for the Bruins' Junior Day as well.
"UCLA's was a great experience," said Brown. "Coach (Todd) Howard is the coach who is recruiting me and I really liked him. He recruited Datone Jones (Brown's Compton teammate), and said he liked what he saw in me. I had met Coach (DeWayne) Walker before and he said they want me to come to camp."
Meanwhile, a pair of Brown's teammates are doing some posturing of their own.
"Datone said it would be good if I came (to UCLA) and told me he'd like to play with me again and I would the same," said Brown. "But my cousin is Chris Metcalf, and he's committed to USC and he tells me I can't leave the family like that. My family wants me at USC, that's the school we all grew up rooting for."
Wherever Brown chooses, whether it's the two Los Angeles schools, or elsewhere, he's not in a rush to make a choice.
"I need to get some offers first, but my timetable to commit isn't until after I take my trips," said Brown. "I've had some teammates make early decisions and some wait, and they tell me how stressful it is, so to take your time until you find the right school for you."
Brown is planning on camping at both USC and UCLA this spring and will also attend the UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine later this month in Carson. He's also been to the Los Angeles Nike Camp this spring.
Last year, Brown was a part of Compton's stingy defense, recording 81 tackles and five sacks from his tackle spot.
Academically, Brown has a 3.1 GPA and will take the SAT in June.
