Visalia (Calif.) El Diamante offensive lineman Greg Capella (6-4, 322), the top offensive lineman in Central California and a member of the West 150, has been waiting for his first scholarship offer to materialize.

On Monday afternoon, it happened.

"UCLA had come by the school a while ago and Coach (Tim) Hauck called me today and said they were offering me," said Capella. "They said I could play both guard and tackle, it didn't matter."

Capella said the offer from UCLA came as a surprise.

"It being my first offer, yeah, it was kind of a shock. I never thought my offer would be from a Pac-10 school, but I was pretty excited," said Capella. "It's nice to know that I'm good enough to play in the Pac-10."

Capella said the Bruins have been showing a lot of interest along with California, Colorado, Nevada, San Diego State and UNLV.

"A few other schools said they could be offering me soon," said Capella. "A lot want me to come to their camps too and work out. I'm planning on going to the UCLA 1-Day Camp, San Diego State and then the Cal and Fresno State camps."

Capella said that while it's early, he has five schools that stand out, led by the Bruins.

"My top five are UCLA, Fresno State, Colorado, Cal and USC," said Capella. "I want to take some time and go on a couple of visits."

Capella is planning to attend the UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine on May 31st as well.

In 2007, Capella was named all-West Yosemite League and was a second team all-state underclass selection.

Academically, he has a 3.0 GPA and scored a 22 on the ACT.
