Pollard to Trip to Other Schols

Marlon Pollard, the cornerback prospect from San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon who was the first rcruit from the 2009 class to commit to UCLA, said recently that he plans on visiting other schools before signing his NLI next February...

"Pretty much, everything I do is off athleticism and instinct," Marlon Pollard stated.

So far, that's served Pollard just fine.

Last fall, the 6-foot-1, 160-pound Pollard used his 4.5 second speed in the 40-yard dash to make 56 tackles and three interceptions for Valencia (Calif.) High. After a family move, Pollard will play his final prep season at Cajon High in San Bernardino.

Just imagine the possibilities for Pollard's play with some major college coaching.

Notre Dame would like to see that happen in South Bend. Last week, Charlie Weis offered the four-star prospect from San Bernardino, Calif., a scholarship.

"He said if I was interested in the school, he said he wanted to offer me," Pollard said.

Despite a verbal commitment he made to UCLA prior to his junior season, Pollard told Weis he was interested.

"I'm still a strong commit, but I still want to take my visits and go through the whole process and make sure I'm making the correct decision for me," Pollard explained.

"I know at Notre Dame they have great tradition and they are trying to get back to where they previously were because they had an off season."

Pollard has also picked up offers from Nebraska and Washington. If it wasn't for his verbal commitment, he'd like have more. Pollard is also hearing from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon, Washington State and plenty more.

"There is a lot of people," Pollard said.

Pollard didn't get a chance to talk with Weis long.

"He had watched my tape and said he liked my size as a corner, how my grades are and said I'm a good fit," Pollard said.

He also talked with defensive coordinator Corwin Brown.

"He was just saying he wants to try and get me out there and show me some technique," Pollard said.

The only school Pollard has seen is UCLA. He plans on taking official visits to Notre Dame, Nebraska and Washington. The other two officials are up in the air, but Pollard plans on using them. The only camp he is currently signed up for is the Bruins' one this month.

Pollard realizes he is thin, and needs to get bigger for the next level. He has been slamming down protein shakes and lifting hard. Besides his speed, Pollard makes up for his lack of size with a broad jump of 9-feet, 11-inches, and his vertical is a ridiculous 36.5 inches.

With just one more season of not having a position coach, Pollard will keep doing what he's been doing.

"I just study the great corners and stuff, and (UCLA defensive coordinator) coach (DeWayne) Walker has been giving me a few tips."
