Gardena (Calif.) Serra safety Anthony Carpenter (5-11.5, 175), is sitting on three offers, two from the Pac-10 and one from the Big 12.

"My three offers are from Nebraska, Washington State and Oregon State," said Carpenter. "Oregon and Arizona State are also recruiting me pretty heavily."

Carpenter said that Oregon State is the leader, having camped there and getting a good vibe from the Beavers coaching staff.

He's also hoping two in-state programs pick up their interest in him.

"I like Cal and UCLA but they really haven't talked much with me. UCLA has lost some guys, so we'll see. And I like Cal a lot, they've done really well the last few years," said Carpenter.

Carpenter said the Beavers are recruiting him as a safety, but would like him to consider playing some corner.

"To be honest, either spot is fine with me," said Carpenter. "I just want to get on the field."

Carpenter is hoping to get some official visits set up in the next few weeks, so he can set his schedule for the fall.

The last few seasons, Carpenter has the opportunity to go up against bigtime prospects like Anthony Boyles and now Robert Woods in practice every day. So what has Carpenter taken away from that?

"That it takes hard work and dedication to be the best you can be at the next level," said Carpenter. "I've been able to go up against some great players and it's just making me better."

Carpenter had 74 tackles and a sack during his 2007 junior season at Serra and rushed for 268 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Academically, he has a 3.1 GPA and is already cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
