Hauptmann Holds Out For More

Beverly Hills (Calif.) offensive lineman Caylin Hauptmann has a Big East offer under his belt, but he's hoping for more attention from the West Coast, including hopes for an offer from a handful of Pac-10 schools...

Beverly Hills (Calif.) offensive lineman Caylin Hauptmann (6-5, 308) is holding one offer as the start of his senior season approaches, but Hauptmann is feeling good about his chances for more.

"Washington, Oregon, UCLA and Arizona State have been talking with me a lot, and San Diego State has been too," said Hauptmann. "I think Washington, UCLA and San Diego State are very close to offering, along with Arizona State. I think they just want to see some of my first few games."

Hauptmann had started to get antsy as he waited for the first offer, but he ended up receiving one from a school clear on the other side of the country.

"During the end of the school year, I got my first offer from Syracuse. I was really excited that morning I received it. I hadn't been in contact with them for a while, so to get an offer from them, it was surprising and cool."

Hauptmann said his top five schools included the Orange along with UCLA, Washington, Arizona State and Nebraska.

"UCLA and Washington are my top two," said Hauptmann. "UCLA being in my backyard, and they do seem pretty interested in me, I would definitely think very hard about committing on the spot. Actually, for either one of them. I want to see both schools offer me."

Hauptmann camped at three schools, Washington and UCLA being two of them, and San Diego State the other.

"The Washington camp was really exciting," said Hauptmann. "They seemed to like me up there. UCLA was really cool. As linemen, we lined up from a center perspective, it was new again to me but I thought I was on point."

Over the weekend, Hauptmann was planning to visit Cal and next week, he's planning to visit Illinois while in Chicago. He's also hoping to take in some of UCLA's fall practice when it begins.

"I definitely want to go back to Washington and UCLA. But I'll wait for an official visit to go to Washington," said Hauptmann. "I want to take all five of my official visits, but I want to commit by the end of the season. If I don't have a school picked out yet, then I'll take the time between the end of the season and Signing Day to decide.

Hauptmann said he's in fine shape academically, with a 2.8 GPA and a score of 24 on the ACT.

At the UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine in Los Angeles, Hauptmann was one of the better performing offensive lineman and earned all-combine honors.
