Vogrich Plans His Official Visits

It happens every summer. A guy goes from not even pinging the radar to high-major recruiting attention. One of July's truly intriguing stories centered around 6-3, sharp-shooting Illinois guard, Matt Vogrich. He tells us about the high-majors he'll be visiting this fall...

It's one of the vexing questions of the summer: how was Matt Vogrich able to remain under the radar so long? After smoking 3-pointers in Vegas, the Lake Forest (Ill.) High went from mid level to high-major recruit in a span of hours.

"In Lake County, Ill., there are four highly rated players – Jereme Richmond, Lenzelle Smith and Brandon Paul," Bob Vogrich told Scout.com. "He's played well with them. We don't win a lot when we play them but Matt stacks up well when we play them."

Vogrich's omission from the national radar can be linked to a number of factors. He might have blown up at the Hensley Memorial Tournament but prom weekend kept him at home. He nearly erupted at the King James Shootout but as fate would have it, it wasn't to be.

"He had 30 in an overtime victory in Akron (opening night) and none of the coaches were there. On Saturday, he was up early and he was OK. He was exhausted though. Nobody saw the big game but the two pretty good ones.

"He had these explosive games all spring but whenever his tree fell no one was in the forest."

Vogrich's list reads Notre Dame, Wake Forest, UCLA, Stanford, Michigan, Northwestern and Miami-OH. Miami is the heavy underdog and the lone mid-major conference program that survived carnage caused by the Vegas blow up.

Vogrich will take an unofficial visit to Stanford the final weekend of August. He'll trek unofficially to Michigan before schools tips Sept. 5. The sniper's first official visit is Notre Dame Sept. 13. Wake Forest follows on the 20th and UCLA is scheduled for the final weekend in September.
