Neuheisel After Saturday Practice

UCLA was at the Rose Bowl on Saturday for a walkthrough practice as they prepare for the season opener with Tennessee. Coach Rick Neuheisel spoke with the media via a conference call following the practice and talked about Kevin Craft, Nelson Rosario and more...

Opening Comments
It was an uneventful day here at the Rose Bowl. We feel good about ourselves as we head into next week. We went 1's against the 2's, about 15-20 plays each and then the 3s scrimmaged against each other. We got some live reps in special teams which were beneficial to us. We did some 2-minutes stuff. It was also a good day for the coaches in getting used to the headphones here at the Rose Bowl. It was a productive day. There were no injuries. A couple bumps and bruises but no injuries.

On Kahlil Bell
Khalil Bell got about 5-6 carries. I think you would expect him to take 70% percent of the snaps (this season), and maybe 50-75 percent of the snaps in the first game.

On Kevin Craft
Kevin was much better today. He was crisp. I thought the offense moved efficiently. There were a couple of balls batted down at the line of scrimmage. (Friday), we'll write it off as just a bad day. There was a point in practice that we were really looking for touchdown passes and I think he tried to bite off more than he could chew to impresses the coaches. But it will turn out to be a productive day because of the experience. Today, he probably hit 2/3 of his passes. And no interceptions.

On the backup running backs
The next guy in line is probably Chane Moline and then Raymond Carter. Chane and Ray will be splitting the rest of them (carries).

On Nelson Rosario
We held out Taylor Embree again and Nelson Rosario made some plays. I think he's got a great set of tools and he's obviously learning the offense and I think Reggie Moore is doing a great job working with him. And we want to benefit from using him.

On the passing of former Bruin lineman Frank Cornish
The Bruin family lends our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to the family. I was a coach when he was a player and he was just a gifted guy. Frank was a great guy in the locker room and a huge personality and a fun guy to be around. He is going to be missed by everyone. He was a terrific, terrific Bruin.

Other Notes
Rahim Moore had an interception off of Kevin Prince. Osaar Rasshan didn't practice today because of a knee ailment. Chris Forcier remains the #2 quarterback though Prince did some work with the 2s.
