Pauley's Floor to be Named After Coach

What has been long overdue is finally going to happen, even though Coach Wooden has resisted it for many years...

One of the things most long-overdue concerning UCLA athletics will finally happen.

John Wooden's name is finally going to be attached to Pauley Pavilion. UCLA officials have decided to move ahead in naming the arena's floor "John Wooden Court at Pauley Pavilion," it was announced Saturday.

The issue had been considered for years, but John Wooden, 92, who is perhaps the best coach in the history of American sports, has always resisted having his name attached to the arena. New athletic director Dan Guerrero, though, has been more aggressive in honoring Coach Wooden, especially in specifically attaching Coach's name to the Pauley Pavilion court.

The dedication and naming of the Pauley Pavilion floor could come as early as some time this season, according to UCLA officials.
