Here is a look at games involving UCLA commits and recruits in Week Three of the prep football season.
Game of the Week:
Encino Crespi at Ventura St. Bonaventure
Two of the best teams in the West meet in a game with bigtime implications in the state title race. Crespi is the favorite to earn the D-II berth in the state title game and St. Bonaventure the top dog in D-III, but a win here will give either school a major strength of schedule boost. Last year, Crespi handed the Seraphs their only loss. The Seraphs are led by USC commit Patrick Hall, who'll be at UCLA's game tomorrow, as well as junior studs Troy Hill at corner and Dylan Davis at linebacker. The Celts are paced by UCLA recruit Kevin Cummings, who's had a great start on both sides of the ball, and 2010 prospects Bryan Bennett at quarterback, Hroniss Grasu on both lines and receiver Blake Stanton.
Corona Centennial at Fresno Clovis West
Fresh off a big win over Santa Ana Mater Dei, Centennial's road doesn't get any easier, as they visit defending Central Section champion Clovis West. The Eagles are paced by Washington commit Nate Fellner and Fresno State commit Travis Brown. The Huskies counter with one of the most talented rosters in the West, highlighted by UCLA commit Ricky Marvray at receiver, USC commit Vontaze Burfict at linebacker and Bruin recruit Arthur Burns in the backfield.
Loyola at St. John Bosco
Fuming after narrowly losing to Concord De La Salle a week ago, Loyola hits the road to take on St. John Bosco in a key Pac-5 division game. St. John Bosco is led by Washington-commit Keith Price at quarterback and Boise State-commit Will Shamburger at receiver and corner. Loyola has a pair of juniors with UCLA offers, running back Anthony Barr, the early frontrunner for Underclassmen of the Year and tight end John Young.
Damien at La Puente Bishop Amat
San Gabriel Valley bragging rights are on the line when the surging Lancers of Bishop Amat host Damien of La Verne. The Lancers could be getting Isaiah Bowens, the UCLA-committed linebacker who's been out all year with a broken leg, back but they'll still feature UCLA verbal Sheldon Price at corner and UCLA recruit Brent Seals at linebacker and running back.
Los Osos at Vista Murrieta
In a matchup of unbeatens, the Grizzlies of Los Osos return to action after a week off. Led by quarterback Richard Brehaut, a UCLA commit and three-star running back Arby Fields, they will visit unbeaten Vista Murrieta, who's led on the ground by Bruin recruit Bradley Randle.
Vista at Mission Viejo
The Diablos again face a San Diego Section powerhouse, when they host Vista on Friday night. Cal commit Allan Bridgford has been stout all season long at quarterback and UCLA commit Alex Mascarenas, who was named the County's Defensive Player of the Week, looks to extend his streak of games with a touchdown to four, and add on to his two picks from a week ago.
Visalia El Diamante at Fresno Central
This game could get ugly early as the overmatched and winless Grizzlies of Central host the top team in Visalia, El Diamante, who won last week in a game that was over at the half. UCLA commit Greg Capella anchors the offensive line for El Diamante, that is averaging nearly 225 yards a game on the ground, with Stefphon Jefferson leading the ground game.
Arcadia at Lynwood
The Apaches will be without Todd Golper, the UCLA committed linebacker, who's still out with a foot injury when they host Lynwood, who features one-time UCLA recruit and current Cal commit Vachel Samuels and the younger brother of UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers, Kevin Ayers.
Los Alamitos at Long Beach Wilson
Wilson boasts Stanford-commit Jemari Roberts and they'll need a big night from him against the unbeaten Griffins, who's offense is led by Colorado-commit Clark Evans, with his top targets being Darryl Jenkins and 2010 UCLA target Paul Richardson.
Other UCLA Offers in Action
Gardena Serra and 2010 receiver Robert Woods host Redondo. Las Vegas Silverado and Keenan Graham will visit Henderson Basic. Reno McQueen and LB Kyle Van Noy visit Bruin defensive tackle Jerzy Siewierski's alma mater, Reno Sparks.
