Chris Horton, 6-2, 190, 4.48, New Orleans (LA) De La Salle, is making a real name for himself as a senior and seeing his recruitment pick up because of it.
He's put up some great stats, on a team that went 2-8 for the season. "We are not real strong. We're not like the De La Salle team in
The scouting report on Horton this season is he's a big-time hitter with a great nose for the ball, and he is now considered one of the best safety prospects in the south. He is being recruited primarily for safety, but if he fills out he may end up as a linebacker. "I played like a rover/strong safety this year. I played in the middle, on the outside and in the free safety position."
Horton also runs track. He is a quarter-miler and runs the 400 and 4x400 relay. "I have a personal best of 49.12 in the 400 and a 48.1 split in the relay," he said.
Horton has been hearing more and more from some pretty big-named schools, and offers, he says, are starting to come in. His first offer was from Tulane, and then, Monday night, UCLA offered. He also said that
Horton will take his first official visit, to UCLA, this weekend. And it's a bit of a homecoming for him. Horton lived in
As far as other official visits, Horton has two other visits arranged so far. He is heading to Arkansas on January 10th and Tulane on January 17th.
The UCLA offer came via a telephone conversation between Horton's mother and UCLA cornerback coach R. Todd Littlejohn. "She asked him if UCLA was offering, and he said yes. We were all real excited. I wasn't around to talk to coach Littlejohn. I am waiting for him to call me back tonight [Tuesday]."
Horton has a qualifying core GPA, and is taking the ACT on December 14.
