Matt Garin, the 6-4, 225-pound defensive end from Apple Valley (Minn.) Eastview, led his team to a 7-4 mark this season. He was named Associated Press second-team all-state last season after leading the Lightning to the Prep Bowl semifinals and an 11-2 mark. Garin was the team's leading tackler from the defensive end position.

Garin's father, Dave, played high school football at Bloomington Kennedy. He played at St. Thomas University, Normandale Community College and UNLV.

Garin has received scholarship offers from Washington State, Oregon State, Air Force, Stanford, Western Michigan, Colorado, Arizona State, Minnesota, Boise State and West Virginia.

Garin, who took an official visit to Colorado earlier this fall, is still trying to work on his remaining visits.

"UCLA wants me to come out to the USC game. West Virginia wants to come next weekend (they face Cincinnati) or I could go to Minnesota for their game against Michigan. I might take my official with Moses (Alipate) in December," he said.

Garin played defensive end for the Lightning and also contributed to their short-yardage package.

Garin also played on the Eastview lacrosse team that advanced to the state semifinals.

Garin is an excellent student with a 3.49 GPA and a 23 ACT score.
