Here is a look at games involving UCLA commits and recruits in Week Nine of the prep football season.
Game of the Week: Corona Centennial vs. Corona Santiago
If it seems like Centennial is always in the game of the week, its likely because they are. Centennial can clinch at least a tie for the Big VIII title with a win over Santiago in this rematch of the CIF-SS Inland Division Finals. Centennial boasts UCLA commit Ricky Marvray at receiver, and two players UCLA is watching close in Will Sutton and Gavin Pascarella, as well as linebacker Brandon Brown, a 2010 prospect with a UCLA offer. Santiago features 2010 quarterback Brandon Connette and some 2009 recruits, tight end Marlion Barnett and cornerback Sean Martin.
Bishop Amat vs. Crespi
Both teams are trying to get their first win in Serra League play, with Crespi losing to Notre Dame last week and Bishop Amat falling to Loyola. The Celts are led by junior quarterback Bryan Bennett and senior receiver Kevin Cummings. The Lancers are paced by UCLA commits Sheldon Price and Isaiah Bowens, and recruit Brent Seals.
Claremont at Los Osos
Los Osos, led by quarterback Richard Brehaut, needs a win over Claremont to keep their hopes alive for a Baseline League title. A win in their next two games, coupled with a win by Upland over Rancho Cucamonga next week, forces a three-way tie. And Brehaut will continue to bolster his case for Baseline League MVP.
Burbank at Arcadia
The Apaches are in must-win mode in order to secure their playoff hopes. Todd Golper was one of only 18 Apaches to suit up a week ago, but played like he was the only one capable. The UCLA commit has been all over the field, either running the ball or making stops, and he'll need another big effort to keep Arcadia in the mix.
Mission Viejo at Dana Hills
Both teams try to keep their South Coast League title hopes alive in a key league game. The Diablos, led by Cal-committed quarterback Allan Bridgford and UCLA-committed two-way threat Alex Mascarenas looked good last week in a narrow win over San Clemente. And Mascarenas should get plenty of work against Duke commit Sean Schroeder, who's throwing for over 300 yards a game.
Punahou at St. Louis
Two of Hawaii's best meet in a conference game, and a rematch of Punahou's only loss this year. St. Louis routed the Buffnblu, 40-19, but Punahou wants revenge in this one. St. Louis is led by UCLA recruit Kapua Sai while the Buffnblu feature two UCLA commits, receiver Roby Toma and running back Dalton Hilliard, and their chief remaining defensive target, Manti Te'o.
Visalia El Diamante at Hanford
The league title is on the line when El Diamante, which features the vaunted running game paced by senior back Stefphon Jefferson and UCLA commit Greg Capella in the trenches face D.J. Maciel of Hanford.
Bloomington at Norte Vista
The Bruins, led by UCLA commit Jayson Allmond, still have an outside chance at the playoffs, but need a win over Norte Vista, who's winless in league play.
Pomona Diamond Ranch at Wilson
Diamond Ranch, led by UCLA commit Brandon Sermons in the secondary, can also keep its slim playoff hopes alive with a win over Wilson.
Notre Dame at Loyola
Notre Dame has been the surprise team in the Southland this year, going 8-0 behind 2010 quarterback Ryan Kasdorf. The Knights also feature sleeper receiver James Flynn and linebacker Jordan Barrett. The Cubs counter with 2010 prospects John Young at TE/DT and running back Anthony Barr, both with UCLA offers, as well as 2010 linebacker Bronson Green.
Other UCLA Offers in Action
St. John Bosco at Santa Ana Mater Dei (2010 lineman Chris Ward)
Bishop Montgomery at Gardena Serra (2010 receiver Robert Woods)
Pleasanton Amador Valley at Danville Monte Vista (2009 tight end Zach Ertz)
Mission Hills Alemany at La Canada St. Francis (2010 receiver Dietrich Riley)
Las Vegas Silverado (UCLA commit Keenan Graham)
