Here is a look at games involving UCLA commits and recruits in Week Ten of the prep football season.
Game of the Week: Bishop Amat at Notre Dame
In the de facto Serra League title game, Bishop Amat travels to unbeaten Notre Dame, who is playing for one of the top two seeds in the Pac-5. Notre Dame has wrapped up a playoff spot, but Amat needs to win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. And a win would also create a tie for the Serra League title. The Knights are led by junior quarterback Ryan Kasdorf, who's been stellar this season. James Flynn also has 16 touchdown receptions, and he'll most likely draw UCLA commit Sheldon Price across from him. The Lancers defense, which also boasts UCLA verbal Isaiah Bowens and recruit Brent Seals will have their work cut out for them against the Knights.
Norco vs. Corona Centennial
The last three CIF-SS championships have been won by these two teams, with Norco winning the 2005 and 2006 titles and Centennial taking the 2007 title. Norco has gotten into a rhythm the past two weeks but will need to step it up even more against unbeaten Centennial, who's already wrapped up the Big VIII title and is now playing for the top-seed in the Inland Division. Ricky Marvray, UCLA's committed receiver, has gone over 100 yards in the past three games.
Etiwanda at Los Osos
Los Osos, led by quarterback Richard Brehaut, needs a win over Etiwanda and then some help from Upland against Rancho Cucamonga to force a three-way tie in the Baseline League. And Brehaut will continue to bolster his case for Baseline League MVP along with teammate Arby Fields, who committed to Northwestern earlier this week. Etiwanda boasts 2010 receiver Bobby Ratlif and 2009 cornerback Vincent Minor.
Capistrano Valley at Mission Viejo
Bragging rights in Mission Viejo are on the line, as well as the Diablos hopes of a South Coast League title. The Diablos need to beat Capo and have Dana Hills beat Tesoro to force a tie, though Tesoro would earn the #1 spot. Cal-bound quarterback Allan Bridgford and UCLA-bound cornerback Alex Mascarenas have been a formidable pass-catch combo for Mission. Capo is led by two-way lineman Ryan Shott.
Visalia El Diamante at Visalia Golden West
The West Yosemite League title is on the line when the two Visalia schools face off for the "Saddle" in this crosstown rivalry. El Diamante is aiming for the top spot in the CIF-Central Section playoffs, and will try to keep their hopes for the SoCal D-II state bowl game intact, behind the running game of Stefphon Jefferson and lineman Greg Capella, a UCLA commit.
Punahou at St. Louis
Two of Hawaii's best meet in the final conference game, and a rematch of Punahou's only loss this year. St. Louis routed the Buffnblu, 40-19, but Punahou wants revenge in this one. St. Louis is led by UCLA recruit Kapua Sai while the Buffnblu feature two UCLA commits, receiver Roby Toma and running back Dalton Hilliard, and their chief remaining defensive target, Manti Teo.
Crespi at Loyola
A game full of youth will have major implications in the Serra League and in the Pac-5. Crespi, once a top five team, hasn't won in the Serra League yet, and will need to beat Loyola to have any kind of shot at an at-large berth. The Celts are led by 2010 quarterback Bryan Bennett and 2010 defensive lineman Hronnis Grasu as well as 2009 receiver Kevin Cummings. The Cubs counter with a pair of juniors that UCLA has offered, running back Anthony Barr and tight end/defensive tackle John Young.
Crescenta Valley at Arcadia
The Apaches can keep their playoffs hopes alive if they can hold off Crescenta Valley. But they'll need to do it without the services of their all-everything player Todd Golper, the UCLA commit. Golper suffered a season-ending knee injury a week ago.
