Friday Recruit Preview: Week 10

The CIF playoffs begin up and down the state and several of UCLA's commits and recruits are involved in them, on a night where the UCLA coaching staff will be out using one of their evaluation days...

Here is a look at games involving UCLA commits and recruits in the first round of the prep football season.

Game of the Week: Loyola at Mission Viejo
With UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel expected to be in attendance, Loyola marks their return to the CIF playoffs with a road game at South Coast League runner-up Mission Viejo. The Diablos are led by UCLA-commit Alex Mascarenas at both receiver and in the secondary and Cal-bound quarterback Allan Bridgford. The Cubs counter with a pair of juniors that UCLA has offered, running back Anthony Barr and tight end/defensive tackle John Young.

Bishop Amat at Long Beach Poly
The Lancers got a tough draw in their return to the CIF-SS playoffs, having to go on the road to face top-seeded and unbeaten Long Beach Poly. The Lancers, led by UCLA commits Sheldon Price and Isaiah Bowens, will have their work cut out for them against the Poly offense, led by Morgan Fennell and Melvin Richardson. The Jackrabbits, though, are stout on defense, led by UCLA target Iuta Tepa, safety Stanjarvius McKay and Hawaii-commit George Daily-Lyles at linebacker.

Yucaipa at Corona Centennial
The defending champion Huskies get playoff action started when they host Yucaipa. Led by UCLA commit Ricky Marvray on offense and USC commit Vontaze Burfict on defense, the Huskies are gearing up for a return trip to the CIF State Bowl Game, and they are the heavy favorites in the CIF-SS Inland Division.

Wildomar at Los Osos
Los Osos, led by quarterback Richard Brehaut, finished second in the Baseline League, but still earned the #2 seed overall, and are one of the favorites to win the CIF-SS Central Division. They'll need to get past Wildomar first, though, in order to make their run in the playoffs.

Pomona Diamond Ranch at Pasadena Muir
Diamond Ranch seems to be peaking at the right time and had a good game in the regular season finale from UCLA commit Brandon Sermons, who ran for a touchdown, threw for one and returned a punt for a score. They'll need to be on target, though, to beat Muir, who's one of the favorites for the CIF-SS Southeast title.
