Bruins Are Soccer Champs

The UCLA Men's Soccer team scored with approximately 1:10 left in the match to dramatically pull out the victory in the national championship game against rival, Stanford, Sunday, 1-0.

Sophomore Aaron Lopez scored off a great crossing assist from senior All-American midfielder Ryan Futagaki.

It was a tough fought game with the momentum swinging back and forth throughout the match. UCLA's high scoring forwards Tim Pierce and Matt Taylor were shut down for the entire match by Stanford's big defensemen.

It was particulary poignant for Futagaki who lost his father this year to Lou Gehrig's disease and had dedicated the season to him.

UCLA wins its fourth national championship in men's soccer, having also won national championships in 1985, 1990, 1997.
