Long List for Elite JR Josh Smith

Josh Smith, the 6-9 prospect from Kent (Wash.) Kentwood, is one of the elite juniors in the country, so it's not surprising that the list of schools recruiting him includes many of the nation's top programs...

Josh Smith, 6-9 JR C Kent (Wash.) Kentwood, is one of the premier big men in the class of 2010. A big-bodied kid with great hands, Smith is surprisingly agile for his size and he gets up a lot quicker than you'd expect. He figures to be an impact player at the college level in his freshman year.

I spoke with Smith recently and asked about the main schools on his list.

"I'm hearing from all of the Pac-10, Texas, Louisville, North Carolina, Duke, Syracuse, Kentucky, Georgetown and a little from Memphis," said Smith.

I asked Smith what the main factors will be in his decision.

"Right now, I'm just enjoying the high school season," said Smith. "I'm watching a lot of college basketball to see how teams play. I've also been watching where some of the top guys have been going to see who I would be playing with next year. I'm not really looking at the location -- that doesn't really matter."

When asked if he had a dream school when he was growing up, Smith replied, "I played baseball when I was younger, so I didn't really have a dream school for college."

Smith said he doesn't really have a time frame for choosing a school.

"I'm hoping to narrow it down when my season is over to maybe five schools," said Smith. "Then my family and I will take some time to decide when it feels right. There really isn't a specific time that I'm looking make the decision.
