Abele Commits to the Bruins

Irvine (Calif.) two-way lineman Nik Abele was one of the commits UCLA received this weekend while on their official visit, and he'll get a chance to play on his preferred side of the ball...

Irvine (Calif.) defensive end/offensive tackle Nik Abele, one of the more versatile linemen in Southern California, will be staying in the Southland.

Abele committed to UCLA on Saturday night during his official visit.

"It was just a good fit for me," said Abele. "It's close to home and my family can come and watch me play."

The Bruins were one of the more recent teams to get involved for Abele, prior to the season, most of his offers were from out-of-state.

But a good senior season piqued the interest of several programs, with Cal, Arizona State, Washington and Colorado offering Abele, along with the Bruins.

Having played offensive tackle and defensive end, Abele had hoped to stay on defense, but most schools liked him as an offensive lineman.

But UCLA said they would let him come in as a defensive end, and he appreciated that.

"Really, I'll play wherever, but I like defense a lot," said Abele.

An all-Orange County selection as an offensive lineman, Abele was also an all-state pick.
