But on the visit, McKay got some news he had been hoping for from the Bruin staff.
"The coaches said there would be no greyshirt, none of that anymore," said McKay. "That was what I was hoping to hear."
There had been rumors circulating that McKay committed to the Bruins on the visit and he spoke to those.
"I've made my decision but I'm not ready to announce it yet," said McKay. "I just want to talk with all of the coaches involved."
"It went very, very good," said McKay. "Rahim Moore was my host. I kind of knew him before because I watched their practices a lot. I got to hang out with Morrell (Presley), Milton (Knox), E.J. (Woods), Terrence (Austin) and Rahim too. All the players were real cool. The quarterback, Richard (Brehaut) was there too and I hung with him some."
McKay had been to the UCLA campus before, but the visit enabled him to see much more.
"They showed me a lot of different things on the visit. I got to talk a lot with Coach (Rick) Neuheisel and Coach (Reggie) Moore. Coach Neuheisel was the one who told me they were taking the greyshirt off. They want me to play safety and play some nickel. Coach Neuheisel is coming on Friday to my house (for an in-home)."
McKay said a few other things stood out about his visit.
"At the hotel, we had a good view of the ocean and we got to go through Bel-Air. That was cool," said McKay.
McKay was planning a visit to Washington for later this month but said the visit to UCLA was his final trip.
"I'm not going to take that trip," said McKay. "I've made up my mind."
