2011 Class Intro: Nick Johnson

Nick Johnson, a talented 6-1 sophomore guard from Gilbert (Ariz) Highlland, is receiving interest from a number of top programs, including schools in the Pac-10, Big East and Big 12...

Nick Johnson, 6-1 SO SG/PG Gilbert (Ariz.) Highland, is a very promising young prospect with a terrific stroke and solid feel for the game. Johnson is a very bouncy and finishes well around the rim. Right now, he projects more as a shooting guard, but there's a chance he'll play some one down the road.

I spoke with Johnson recently and he gave me a list of schools that have been in contact with him.

"UCLA, Gonzaga, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, Arizona State, Arizona, Pepperdine, Texas, UConn, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin," said Johnson.

I asked Johnson if any schools have offered.

"Gonzaga, Arizona State, Oregon State, Virginia Tech and Pepperdine," said Johnson.

When asked if any school stands out for him at the moment, Johnson replied, "I really like UCLA, but right now I'm wide open and don't really have a favorite."

Johnson talked a little about the factors he'll consider when picking a school.

"The history, how they're doing now, the coaching, whether there's a chance to play right away – or at least a chance to fight for a spot," said Johnson. "The location doesn't really matter."

I asked Johnson if he has given any thought to when he might pick a school.

"I think I want to take my visits and take my time," said Johnson. "I talked with a few people and they don't think it's a good idea to commit early. So I think it's best to wait."

Johnson said he has a 3.2 GPA.
