Damien Thigpen, a 5-9, 170-pound running back from Virginia, who is verbally committed to Tennessee, will take an official visit to UCLA this weekend. The speedster tells us why he's coming to Westwood while committed to the Volunteers...

Stonewall Jackson High School athlete Damien Thigpen is still very much verbally committed to Tennessee, however the 5-foot-9, 170-pound running back will be taking an official visit this weekend to UCLA and is also talking with coaches from three other programs. Tonight we spoke to Thigpen and his father about his current activity.

"First and foremost, we want to make it completely clear that Damien is still committed to Tennessee," Mr. Thigpen said. "Right now we're just having Damien look at all of his options to make sure that he's doing the right thing for his future, that's it."

"Coach Rick Neuheisel from UCLA, Coach Charlie Weis from Notre Dame and Coach Dan Mullen have all been great with us throughout this process and all put a personal touch on recruiting which we value," Mr. Thigpen explained. "They have all been very professional with us, handle themselves in a great manner and have made us appreciate our time with them."

Rumors have been swirling that Thigpen would officially visit Auburn soon, however that is not the case.

"Damien will not be visiting Auburn at this time, however we will be making an official visit to UCLA this Friday and are debating whether we will be taking an official visit to Notre Dame after that."

Thigpen was injured during his senior season but still managed 123 carries for 806 yards and sixteen touchdowns in five games. He caught four passes for 112 yards. The senior was awarded First Team All-District running Back. He ran a 6.35 indoor 55 meter to tie for region first place.
