Oklahoma DL Talks

Jared Naylor, the defensive line prospect from Oklahoma, is still considering UCLA, and gave us his reaction to the commitment of his teammate and friend, Blake Smith, to Colorado State...

Jared Naylor, 6-3, 270, 4.9 Tulsa (Okla.) Union, said he has rescheduled his official visit to UCLA and gave his reaction to the commitment of his teammate Blake Smith to Colorado State.

Naylor said he has talked recently with Kansas State, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Stanford and SMU. Both SMU and New Mexico State have offered Naylor, but his only scheduled official visit is to UCLA. Naylor was just named first-team all-state.

Asked if UCLA has been in contact since the hiring of head coach Karl Dorrell, Naylor said, "They have called a few times and sent a letter." As for rescheduling his official visit that was originally to take place on December 13, he said, "Yeah. I rescheduled for January 10th. I would like to see coach (Don) Johnson stay. That would be cool."

Besides admiring his championship ring, Naylor has been keeping busy since Union captured the Oklahoma Division 6A state championship with a perfect 14-0 record. "I've just been hanging out and lifting. I'm working out about five days a week."

BRO asked Naylor if the news of the commitment of his teammate and friend, Blake Smith, came as a surprise. "No not really. He came back from that visit and told me that he could see himself committing. I don't know if he is going to visit UCLA, because Colorado State told him they don't want him taking any more trips." Naylor explained that Smith was intending to take a couple more visits, including one to UCLA, but CSU stated that they were low on scholarships for defensive lineman, and wouldn't hold the ride if Smith went on other trips. Smith visited CSU on December 6th.

Naylor has talked recently to defensive lineman Chadd Evans of Tulsa Booker T. Washington who committed to UCLA earlier this month. "He called and told me he was definitely still committed to UCLA. We talked for a bit. He is taking his visit on the same weekend I am."
