UCLA Interested in Corona Receiver

The 6-3, 185-pound Tyler Slavin from Corona (Calif.) Roosevelt has good academics and was on his way to a huge junior year before breaking his hand. Still, he showed enough to garner three scholarship offers and interest from schools around the country...

Corona (Calif.) Roosevelt receiver Tyler Slavin (6-3, 185) is sitting on three scholarship offers, the latest coming earlier this week.

"Arizona just offered me, that was my third one," said Slavin. "I'm excited to get a Pac-10 offer. UNLV and Nebraska are my other ones."

Slavin is hearing from numerous other Pac-10 schools, including Oregon, California, Washington, and Arizona State, as well as Northwestern from the Big Ten.

Does he want to stay in the west? "I'm definitely interested in the California schools like Cal and UCLA," said Slavin. "I prefer the West Coast, and I'm open to leaving the West Coast, but it would be cool if I could stay in-state. I've heard from both of them."

Slavin was invited to UCLA's Junior Day this weekend with teammate Austin Hill, but instead he'll be at the Scout/Badger 7-on-7 Passing Tournament in Las Vegas.

He's also is interested in Colorado and Utah, though contact with both has been minimal.

He does, though, have a solid list of favorites. "I'd say right now my top schools are Oregon, Cal, Washington, Utah, Colorado, UCLA and Arizona," said Slavin.

Slavin isn't rushing his decision, wanting to wait until the end of fall to decide. "I kind of want to take all of my visits first and then decide like at the end of November," said Slavin.

Slavin was the second-leading receiver for Roosevelt, which was moved to the tough Big VIII league in only their third year of existence. He had 22 receptions for 501 yards in six games before a broken hand sidelined him for remainder the season.

Academically, Slavin has a 3.5 GPA and will take the SAT this spring.
