West Coast Flavor for McCray

Brookville (Virg.) High School defensive end Zack McCray recently was offered a scholarship by the UCLA Bruins, giving the 6-foot-4, 235-pound athlete another option on the west coast for college.

Coincidentally, the day he was offer by UCLA, USC also came into the picture for him as well.

"UCLA offered me on Friday," McCray said. "I talked to (UCLA defensive line) Coach (Todd) Howard and he said the letter was in the mail. He's a cool guy and very laid back. He just said they liked what they saw on film a lot and hoped that they'd be a factor when it came down to the end of my recruiting and everything."

McCray added: "I don't know a whole lot about UCLA, but my uncle does live 15 minutes from their campus. I know they're located in a really nice place and have very good academics. Their program has been pretty solid over the years and they just got a new coaching staff in. They're recruiting me to play defensive end as well, so that seems to be the position I'll be going at."

McCray lives in Lynchburg, Virg., so we asked if distance will play a big factor in his recruiting.

"I really don't care how far I have to go for school," McCray said. "I'm just looking for the best school for me, so if it's all the way on the west coast then I'll go there. I'm not worried about all of that."

McCray received an offer this week from USC, which let him know that he is one of their top defensive targets, He also has still been talking to Notre Dame regularly.
