Xavier Thames, 6-2 SR PG/SG Sacramento (Calif.) Pleasant Grove, signed with Washington State in the fall, but recently asked for his release after the departure of Cougar head coach Tony Bennett. Thames is now hearing from a variety of programs.

"I'm hearing from coaches at UCLA, Florida, Arizona and most of the Pac-10 schools," said Thames. "They're talking to my AAU coach though – I haven't been speaking with them."

I asked Thames if he is particularly interested in any school at the moment.

"No, I'm looking at everyone right now," said Thames. "I'll know more after I have a chance to talk with the coaches."

When questioned about his interest in Washington State, Thames replied, "I'm still definitely considering Washington State. I need to talk with Coach Bone."

Thames said one issue, in particular, will be important to his decision.

"The chance to play right away as a freshman," said Thames. "That's really the main factor.

I asked Thames if location is an issue.

"No, that's not really important – I'll play anywhere," said Thames.

Thames said he's not sure when he'll make a decision.

"I don't really have a time frame," said Thames. "I need to sit down with my family and figure it out."
