Fontana (Calif.) Kaiser linebacker Josh Shirley got some good news on Thursday morning.

"UCLA saw me on film this morning and offered me," said Shirley. "The head coach (Rick Neuheisel), offered."

For Shirley, it was an offer he'd been hoping for, for quite some time.

"My coaches said they'd be coming soon, to just wait," said Shirley.

So the four-star linebacker waited and it paid off on Thursday.

"They offered me as both a linebacker and defensive end, to switch back and forth," said Shirley. "I am pretty excited."

The offer from the Bruins joins offers from Stanford, San Diego State and Fresno State, where his brother, Jason, starred.

"I'm still keeping my options open but they have been one of my favorites (all along)," said Shirley.

And Shirley isn't rushing to make a decision.

"I don't really have a time frame," said Shirley. "When all the schools have given me my offers, I'll make my decision.

Shirley had a big junior year, earning First Team All-State Underclass and Third Team All-Golden State honors by, one of only ten underclassmen selected to the All-Golden State team. He finished the year with 88 tackles, 17 sacks, 12 knocked-down passes and three forced fumbles. Earlier this month, he was named to the All-Camp Team at the Las Vegas Badger/Scout 7on7 Tournament, playing linebacker.

A solid student, Shirley has a 3.3 GPA and will take the SAT in May. He was an all-Sunkist League Academic pick.
