"It's been going good. It's all new to me and it's all hitting me pretty hard," said Pennix. "I'm just looking out there for more offers and seeing what schools are good for me."
Pennix's four offers have a strong Western feel to them. "UNLV, UCLA, San Diego State and Arizona State have all offered me," said Pennix. "Oregon might be coming, too, I've been talking with them a little bit."
The Bruins got things going with Pennix.
"UCLA was my first offer and it was great to get that offer," said Pennix. "I was really excited. It's a good school. They have a good football team and they're starting to rebuild so I was excited. Coach (Rick) Neuheisel was who offered me and they did it as a defensive end. I've gone up there twice and most of my time has been with Coach (Todd) Howard, the defensive line coach, and I pretty much spent time with Coach Neuheisel."
Pennix took an unofficial visit to Arizona State, going to their Junior Day last weekend.
"Arizona State, I liked it out there, it was a nice atmosphere," said Pennix. "It was a big campus, and the football team is nice. They play a smashmouth type of football. The spring game, I liked it and I'll probably go back out there."
Pennix, though, isn't in a rush to make a decision. "I want to take some visits and go through the whole process but I also want to make it soon, like maybe at the beginning of next month," said Pennix.
Pennix's teammate, Peter Thomas, is one of the West's top quarterbacks and Pennix and Thomas have long discussed playing together.
"I think he wants me on the same team because he knows how hard I hit," joked Pennix. "But it doesn't really matter, we're good friend and we've been to some good visits. So it would be cool to play with him."
Pennix is planning to camp at Oregon, San Diego State, Arizona State, UCLA and the Nike Camp.
Academically, Pennix has a 2.7 GPA and will be taking the SAT later this spring.
During the 2008 season, Pennix had 57 tackles and 10 sacks and helped lead Valhalla to the CIF-San Diego Section semifinals.
