He was one of the most important gets for UCLA Head Coach Rick Neuheisel in the 2009 recruiting class.

Compton College defensive tackle Branden Warner (6-1, 285) has been hard at work in both the classroom and on the practice field preparing for the move to Westwood.

We caught up with the gifted defensive line prospect and he updated us on things, including what he's been doing to get into tip-top shape.

"It's been real tough," Warner said about his workouts this offseason. "They have me doing all these cone drills and a lot of running and cardio because the coaches keep telling me that they need me in great shape when I get in because they want me to come in and start and that's what I want too obviously.

"I've been up there every week watching their practices and seeing what they are doing and the coaches are telling me what I need to do to be ready when I get there."

Warner was one of the more highly recruited JUCO defensive lineman in the 2009 class, hauling in offers from Arizona, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, Washington State and Florida, but he chose the Bruins and he's very happy about his choice.

"They are the school I wanted to go to all along," Warner noted. "I mean, it was great getting those other schools to offer me and stuff, but I really wanted to be a Bruin and I'm excited about it being so close to happening and my family has accepted that I'm going to be out on the west coast now so they are happy for me too."

As a sophomore last fall, Warner was a man on a mission posting 42 tackles, seven sacks and 15 quarterback pressures while moving all over the line for the Tartars.

The talented defensive lineman said he will walk through graduation at Compton on June 12, then head right over to UCLA and begin working with the team and will enroll in summer classes on June 23rd.

Once he arrives on campus he will have two years to play two.
