It Heats Up for Palmdale's Shaw

The 6-2, 195-pound Palmdale (Calif.) cornerback prospect, Joshua Shaw, has seen his recruitment blow up in the last few weeks, going from a handful of scholarship offers to nine at present. He talks about his favorites...

Palmdale (Calif.) cornerback Joshua Shaw (6-2, 195) continues to pull in scholarship offers, with several schools getting in the sweepstakes for the big, physical cornerback.

"I got three more offers now so now I have nine altogether," said Shaw. "I got offered by Colorado State, Utah State and Oregon State."

Those offers go with offers from Iowa State, Washington, San Diego State, Washington State, Utah and Oregon.

"I think more are definitely on the way," said Shaw. "Thursday, coaches are coming to our defensive practice, so more could come then. Notre Dame is coming to watch me next Wednesday. And both USC and UCLA have come by the school."

Shaw is getting good feedback from the two Los Angeles programs.

"They both came by and, when I talked to them after, they said they are probably going to offer me after I go to their camps," said Shaw. "UCLA said for me to go to camp on June 6th (their 1-Day Camp), and I'll have the offer then. USC said the same thing. They invited me to their Rising Stars Camp and they both told me that I may even have the offer before I go to their camps so it's a wait-and-see game. Coach (Jeremy) Bates from USC is recruiting me and Coach (Chuck) Bullough is recruiting me from UCLA."

Shaw said he's putting together a pretty solid list of top schools.

"My top schools are Notre Dame, Oregon, Washington, Georgia, Oregon State, UCLA and USC," said Shaw. "Georgia and Notre Dame have been talking with me a lot and I think they and USC and UCLA will all offer soon."

From that list, two are sticking out in front. "Oregon and Washington are two that are standing out to me, especially after taking unofficial trips to both schools," said Shaw.

Despite previously wanting to make a decision well in advance of Signing Day, Shaw's options have increased to the point that he's content to wait it out and take some time. "With other schools involved and how many offers that have rolled in, I'm going to be waiting for a while," said Shaw.

Shaw will be at the Combine later this month along with the USC and UCLA camps next month.

As a 2008 junior, Shaw had 443 yards receiving, 118 yards rushing, 40 tackles, six breakups and four picks. He earned First Team All-CIF Southern Section, All-Golden League, First Team All-Los Angeles County and helped Palmdale to the CIF-SS semifinals. He'll be at the Combine this month.

Academically, he has a 3.0 GPA and scored an 1180 on the SAT.
