Shaw Talks on Big Offer Week

Joshua Shaw, the defensive back prospect from Palmdale, Calif., is collecting big-time scholarship offers now. After getting one from Notre Dame and another from USC last week, he went to UCLA Saturday to get one from the Bruins...

Palmdale (Calif.) cornerback Joshua Shaw (6-2, 195) hit scholarship offer lucky 21 on Saturday, thanks to a stellar performance at the UCLA 1-Day Camp.

"I thought I did very, very good at the UCLA camp," said Shaw. "UCLA offered me and that made it my 21st offer."

Shaw was confident his performance during the day would net him that elusive offer. When the camp concluded, he was told to go home but call the UCLA coaching staff, and so he did.

"Coach (Rick) Neuheisel offered me," said Shaw. "He told me to wait until I got home and got off campus and called. I was pretty excited about it because I had been waiting for a UCLA offer and I knew if I balled at the camp, I could get one. I like UCLA a lot and I had been waiting for June 6th to come around for a while now."

Shaw said he felt he had one of his best single-day performers ever.

"Man, I was like, did I ever have a good day," said Shaw. "I only allowed one catch the whole day. So I felt pretty good."

Shaw's 21 offers come from all over the country, but he's whittled it to a top 10 with plans to announce a top seven in the coming weeks.

"Right now my top ten are Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Washington, Tennessee, UCLA, California, Arizona, Colorado and Nebraska," said Shaw. "I am going to have a top seven soon."

Shaw will next be camping at the USC Rising Stars Camp, the Trojans joining the Bruins and Notre Dame in offering Shaw in the last week.

Last weekend, he was a standout at the Combine, earning all-combine honors.

As a 2008 junior, Shaw had 443 yards receiving, 118 yards rushing, 40 tackles, six breakups and four picks. He earned First Team All-CIF Southern Section, All-Golden League, First Team All-Los Angeles County and helped Palmdale to the CIF-SS semifinals. He'll be at the Combine this month.

Academically, he has a 3.0 GPA and scored an 1180 on the SAT.
