"It's only fitting that in the Year of the Running Back in the Golden State, a running back is the top player in California," said Scout.com West manager Brandon Huffman. "There are 20 running backs in the top 100 in California this year, in one of the deepest years in memory. Malcolm Jones wears the crown, at least right now, of the top prospect in California, the second time in four years an Oaks Christian player has been at the top (Jimmy Clausen was in the class of 2007)."
But Jones should not get too comfortable with the top spot.
"When it's all said and done, defensive end Ronald Powell, safety Sean Parker, receiver Kenny Stills and all-purpose, do-everything player Robert Woods will challenge Jones for the top spot."
UCLA has offered each of the top eight players in the state.
