Cowan Still on UCLA's List

The big wide receiver/safety prospect from Bellflower St. John Bosco, Joe Cowan, has taken a couple of trips already, but is in contact with UCLA and the new coaching staff...

Joe Cowan, 6-4, 190, 4.43, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, has taken an official trip to Washington and headrf back up to the Northwest again last weekend, but he will also be setting a date with UCLA for an official visit in the near future.

Cowan has already been contacted by the new UCLA coaching staff. "Yeah, I talked to them. I am going to be setting a trip up with them real soon." Cowan had the opportunity to speak with head coach Karl Dorrell. "He gave me a history about himself, and talked about how UCLA picked the new coach.".

He visited Washington in December, and visited Oregon State last weekend. He said he is open to taking other trips and that he is not close to making a decision.

Cowan said UCLA is recruiting him to play receiver, as is Oregon State, but that Washington is recruiting himto play free safety and the Huskies seem to be recruiting him the hardest. Asked if he has a preference for playing on one side of the ball over the other, Cowan said, "No, not really."

Cowan is teammates with running back/defensive back and UCLA recruit Derrick Williams. "We talk about different schools now and then," Cowan said. "It's not like our plan is to go to school together, but we have talked about it."

Both Cowan and Williams participated in the Califlorida Bowl, and Cowan said he had a good time participating in the game. He caught a touchdown pass in the game and laid a wicked hit on a Florida linebacker during a sweep.

As reported earlier by BRO, Cowan is also an accomplished hurdler and 400-meter runner.
