Horton Comments on Commitment

The safety prospect from Louisiana, Chris Horton, committed to UCLA last night. He talks about the details of the commitment, and his dealing with the new UCLA coaching staff...

Chris Horton, 6-2, 195, 4.48, New Orleans (LA) De La Salle, said it did not take too long to decide whether to commit to UCLA after speaking with coach Eric Bieniemy on Wednesday night.

After the in-house visit Wednesday night Horton and his Mom started to discuss the possibility of Horton attending UCLA. "After the coach came on Wednesday night, my Mom and I sat down and talked just briefly. She said, ‘It is your decision. If that's where you want to go, it will be a great place to go to school.' We talked a little more Thursday, and we decided. Then she said if you want to, do it, call. So I picked up the phone and dialed that number. I said, ‘Coach I am ready to commit.'"

Horton had no idea of the reception he would get from the UCLA staff. "I called coach Bieniemy last night, and then coach (Karl) Dorrell called me, then the other coaches called. I was just really excited then. The defensive coordination (Larry Kerr) and coach Bernardi were the other coaches that called."

When BRO called Horton he was once again on the phone with Bieniemy, who was shoring up next Tuesday for an in-home visit with both Bieniemy and Dorrell. "That visit is so coach Dorrell can meet my Mom and my family."

While the freshmen report to UCLA in mid-August, Horton said he intends to go out to California sooner than that and stay with is aunt in Los Angeles.

Side Note: Horton's older brother is already making an order for some Bruin jerseys with Horton's name and number and some hats.
