Bruins Make Final Eight For Shirley

Fontana (Calif.) Kaiser's Josh Shirley, one of the elite defensive prospects in the west for 2010, has narrowed down his list to eight schools, and the Bruins have made the cut for the four-star outside linebacker...

Earlier this month, Fontana (Calif.) Kaiser defender Josh Shirley said he was working on narrowing his top schools down to a more manageable number.

On Tuesday, Shirley released the eight schools he's focusing on.

"My top eight schools, not in any specific order are USC, UCLA,Arizona, Washington, Tennessee, Miami, Notre Dame and California," said Shirley.

Shirley said that those schools comprise his top eight, though there is a chance schools that haven't offered, but do so in the fall, could be under consideration.

While he hasn't set up any visits, Shirley said he's got a good idea of where he'll go.

"For now, I'm going to visit the out-of-state schools," said Shirley, saying also that he'd visit the in-state schools unofficially.

So does Shirley have a leader at this point? "USC and UCLA are a little ahead of the rest, but things could always change," said Shirley.

Shirley and his team are set to begin their fall practice next week, and this weekend, he's planning to be in Westwood for UCLA's Fall Scrimmage.

"Saturday I'm going to the UCLA scrimmage and I'm going to bring a couple of players that I know from around the area," said Shirley.

Shirley is ranked as the #6 outside linebacker in the country by, and tops in the West.
