"Derrick and Joe (Cowan) got Coach Weber (UCLA OL coach) on the phone last night and they told him they wanted to commit," Bosco head coach Kiki Mendoza said. "Derrick has always wanted to go there and even though he enjoyed his visits to Arizona and Cal, he just felt UCLA was the best place for him.
"Joe tripped to Colorado State last weekend and enjoyed the visit but before the trip, UCLA was his leader and he likes the new staff. He also visited Washington and Oregon State but just liked what UCLA had to offer."
Cowan will take his official visit to Westwood this weekend.
Mendoza said, "I'm excited for both players and feel UCLA is getting two great kids as well as athletes. Those two kids helped turn our program around. Joe is an incredible athlete and I thought one of the most underrated players in the state this past season. He'll be a great college player and can play receiver or safety although I think UCLA is brining them in as a receiver.
"Derrick was a four-year starter for us and has a great work ethic. He loves the weight room and is just an outstanding football player. I can't say enough about either player and I think both have a bright future ahead of them."
