Cowan Had the Feeling

Joe Cowan, the wide receiver/defensive back prospect from St. John Bosco, said he knew when wanted to do when he took a trip to another school last weekend...

Joe Cowan, 6-4, 190, 4.43, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, said he returned from a good trip to Colorado State last weekend knowing he wanted to play football in the Pac-10. He committed to UCLA Monday night along with his Bosco teammate Derrick Williams.

Cowan and Williams talked during the day Monday about the possibility of them going to UCLA together, but it was the late night chat that sealed the deal. "We really didn't have a long conversation at night. It was about ten or 15 minutes, but we were both thinking the same thing before we started talking," Cowan said. Had they talked before about going to the same school together? "Yeah, we had, and it turned that it is the best thing for both of us."

As BRO has mentioned, Cowan is a very accomplished track athlete, and he's leaning toward attempting both sports at UCLA. "That is something I haven't decided on yet. Right now I would say, yes. I have talked with them (the UCLA track coaches) a couple of times already. In college I would probably run the 400-meter hurdles and possibly the 400 meters also."

The new staff at UCLA is recruiting Cowan as an athlete, but he is focusing on wide receiver. "Primarily, they have recruited me as a wide receiver, but I may end up on defense. It is just too soon to tell."

Cowan and his mother left their house at about noon today to begin their official visit at UCLA.
