California and UCLA are both posturing for the elite offensive guard, and while a few weeks ago he was indicating a decision could be any day, that's not the case now.
Ward told us that he intends to take an official visit to Cal October 3rd, and that he's likely to take official visits to both schools before he makes up his mind.
"I think I will take trips to both, but I'm not positive," said Ward. "The only one scheduled is Cal on October 3rd when they play USC," said Ward.
Ward also says there's something else he'd need to do before a decision is made.
"I still need to talk with my coach before I make any final decisions," he said.
Ward took unofficial visits to Cal and UCLA during the summer, and almost since the beginning those two schools have been at the forefront of his recruitment.
"Yeah, it's down to Cal and UCLA for me," said Ward. "Those have been my top two schools."
Ward had planned on making it to UCLA's season opener against San Diego State but a prior obligation kept him from attending.
Still, he plans to take in a couple of games at the Rose Bowl.
Ward and Mater Dei dropped their season opener to Carson last weekend, in their first game without Matt Barkley.
Academically, Ward is carrying a 3.0 GPA and scored a 1650 on the SAT.
