News from Recruiting Weekend

There are bits of news trickling out of the official visit weekend, but some of the news is still sketchy. Here is what we've heard as of Saturday night. A few things have changed since Friday for a few of the players on their visits...

Some bits of news from the recruiting weekend:

The defensive tackle who has gotten his release from Syracuse, Eugene Brown, had already verbally committed to San Diego State.  Because he had verbally committed and San Diego State had recruited him strongly since he received his release from Syracuse, Eugene Brown did not take the planned unofficial visit to UCLA this weekend as was expected.

It was unclear how this would affect the recruitment of his younger brother, Long Beach Poly senior defensive tackle Kevin Brown. Reports from the recruiting weekend are that Brown was having a good time but keeping his opinion fairly close to the vest.

Reports indicate that his teammate, defensive end Junior Lemau'u, was indicating he was leaning toward UCLA and could commit before his visit ends on Sunday.

Quintin Daniels, the wide receiver from Los Angeles Loyola, is apparently still enamored of Washington, according to some close to the situation this weekend.

There was very little information about how it was going with Michael Okwo, the linebacker from Manhattan Beach Mira Costa.

A few sources indicated that Maurice Drew, the running back from Concord De La Salle, was saying he was having a very good time on his UCLA official visit and that UCLA was now his leader.

We haven't heard anything on the status of wide receiver Matt Slater from Anaheim Servite or defensive back Milvon James from Los Angeles Fremont, who are also on official visits. No news was heard on the unofficial visit of Fremon wide receiver Mark Bradford.

That's all for now. We'll give you more as we hear it...
