UCLA a Favorite for Elite LB

Since Aramide Olaniyan, the 6-2, 200-pound, four-star linebacker from Woodberry Forest, Virginia, de-committed from Duke, his recruiting has taken off. Recently he said there were a couple of schools in the lead for him...

Aramide Olaniyan has seen his recruiting pick up lately after taking back his verbal commitment from Duke.

Pretty much everyone has started to get back in touch with the free agent from Woodberry Forest, Va., and Olaniyan is excited about the prospects of some schools looking at him.

In fact, Monday was a pretty busy day for him.

"Things have really begun to pick up for me since I de-committed from Duke," Olaniyan stated. "Tennessee, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke and Miami have all called tonight and obviously I haven't gotten to get back to them, but it's exciting to see all the interest coming in."

Olaniyan already has scholarship offers from UCLA and Michigan, two schools that have been consistently recruiting him that he's very high on.

"UCLA and Michigan are definitely in my top three right now and I'm trying to figure out who my third would be. If Notre Dame offered I'm pretty sure they'd move up into that top three as well, but like I don't have an offer from them yet,"  Olaniyan said.

The athletic linebacker is also talking to North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Clemson and Miami.

"All of those schools have unique things that I like about them, so I'm just going to continue to research them online and talk to my parents about who the best fit would be," Olaniyan explained. "I have been talking to UCLA on a weekly basis and talked to Coach Rick Neuheisel last week. He's a great guy and we've had the chance to build a great relationship since we first met last spring. He's always a great guy to speak with and I'm pumped to go out there for my official visit in November and learn more about the school."

On Notre Dame, he said: "I've been talking to Coach Corwin Brown from Notre Dame through e-mail and he says they want my newest film, so I'm going to get that to him as soon as I possibly can. I'm going to be talking to him this week and am looking forward to that. Notre Dame is just a great school and I feel like Coach Charlie Weis definitely has them going in the right direction, so I'm definitely interested in them, but I need to get an offer from them before I know how high my interest is."

Olaniyan also spoke about North Carolina: "I also talked to Coach Butch Davis from North Carolina and he's another guy that it's always a pleasure talking to because when I met him this summer at camp he was really good with me. UNC is a great school and they're doing a bunch of great things with the football program with recruiting and how they're playing on the field. I have built some great relationships with players that go to UNC, so that would be another school I'd already have some friends and family at."

Last Friday, Olaniyan grabbed another offer, from North Carolina State.

"I picked up an offer from North Carolina State, which I was glad to get," Olaniyan explained. "I talked to the coaching staff for about 20 minutes or so, but I didn't get the chance to talk to Coach (Tom) O'Brien. I'm going to take an unofficial visit there because there are already a bunch of kids from Woodberry that go to NC State."

With all the phone calls Monday, it only added to his busy day, since he had to prepare to teach a class at his school Tuesday.

"I'm actually teaching my English class, so I spent all night studying for a French test and now I'm reading a book that I have to take quotes out of and teach the class based off of that," Olaniyan explained. "The whole class is doing it, so I'm not trying to be a teacher or anything. I'm going to be a lawyer."

Olaniyan has 13 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and two sacks in two games so far this season.
