"Yeah, I committed on my trip," James said. "I love UCLA, it's a great school and I'm very excited about going there. The thing was, I just wanted to hold off until I could tell Oregon. Another reason was my mom didn't go on the trip with me and I wanted her to meet the coaches before I make it public just in case.
"Coach Embree came over on Thursday and my mom liked him a lot. I made if 100% official at that time, even though I told them last Sunday I was coming."
James played running back and safety for Fremont this past season but will play corner in college.
"I think I'll have a smooth transition," James said. "My coach at Fremont told me I would probably play corner in college so I did a lot of coverage drills all year and practices playing some man up in the games. I'm a very physical, aggressive player and I love a challenge.
"I'm the kind of person who doesn't worry about getting beat, I'm always looking to make the big play. I'm a nice guy off the field, but on the field, don't even talk to me. If someone gets in my face, there's going to be trouble because I never forget anything out there and I'll just keep coming."
Another plus in landing James is he has a younger brother who was one of the top freshman players in the city this past season.
"He'll be way better than me," James said. "He's a tailback and will dominate next year, he's a great player already."
